Localizing project - Happymood localized to Taiwan

In 2004 we successfully localized and converted the web site http://www.depression.com to Taiwan. We did this for GlaxoSmithKline, (GSK.) The new web site in Taiwan was named http://www.happymood.com.tw The project was done in time and under budget.

We accepted this project only after GSK had first asked another company to do it. The previous company was unfortunately not able to complete the project. The reason for the failure was the so common mistake of companies to compete with price only.

The company in question underbid for the project by offering to do it for an extremely low price. However, they really didn't have the resources or expertise to do a good job. This is an often made mistake in Taiwan.

When you are 'shopping around' for a web solutions company in Taiwan or China, make sure to NOT just look at the price tag but also look at that company's;

experience (ask to see what have they done previously)
track record (talk to their other customers)
suitability for the project (e.g. don't hire a translation company to make a web site.)

If the price is too cheap, chances are there is a good reason for it. Usually the reason is that the company in question, just wants to land the project at any cost. Even if that means that they are not completely prepared to complete the project later. Usually this is bad news for you as a customer. So if a price tag is too cheap compared to price offered by the other companies bidding, you should listen to the warning bells.......
